The Blue Jays’ early-season roster moves continue to come fast. Today, the team designated Mat Latos for assignment. In a series of corresponding moves, they activated the recently-acquired Neil Ramirez, and claimed Cesar Valdez from the Athletics.

Latos was considered a bounce-back candidate by some. However, he had spotty work with the Jays this year. He posted a 6.60 ERA over 15.0 innings. On Tuesday, in his last start for the Jays, Latos allowed seven runs over only 4.0 innings. As Mike Wilner points out, the Jays now need starters for a couple of upcoming games. Don’t be surprised if T.J. House gets called up.
The Jays are not adding much more than depth with the addition of Valdez. The right-hander has a total of 19.1 career major league innings since 2006. This year, he has an ERA of 9.64 over 9.1 innings. He has been sent to Buffalo, and will likely not make it to the MLB roster.
