After Matt Dermody was optioned to Buffalo yesterday, the Blue Jays needed to fill a roster spot. The made a corresponding move today, as they called up Danny Barnes from the Bisons.

Barnes had a strong debut with the Blue Jays last season. Although his ERA sat at 3.95, his peripherals were encouraging. That has translated to more success in Buffalo this year, as the right-hander has a 3.00 ERA and 0.86 FIP through his first 6.0 innings.
Barnes could be a shot in the arm for a bullpen that has had some leaks. However, it is not clear that he will be up for an extended period. The Blue Jays still need to fill a rotation spot for Aaron Sanchez, and will likely need another for J.A. Happ. That means that two relievers will likely be optioned at some point this week.
