Aaron Sanchez’s blister just won’t go away. The Blue Jays’ ace first ran into the problem during the final week of spring training. Based on his first start of the season, the issue appeared to have been dealt with. However, it became clear in his last start against Baltimore that there was still too much friction. Arden Zwelling reports that Matt Dermody has been called up, while Sanchez goes to the 10-day DL.

The move is retroactive to yesterday, meaning that Sanchez will be eligible to return on April 25th. For his part, Dermody has had a poor start to the season in Buffalo, with a 5.79 ERA. It is entirely possible that he is simply a placeholder on the roster for the next few days. The Jays will probably need to call up another starter, most likely T.J. House, for the Angels series. It goes without saying that losing Sanchez, after losing Josh Donaldson last week, is a significant setback.
