After dealing with an injury over the final two months of the season, it appears as though Kevin Pillar has had thumb surgery. This was made public by an Instagram post that went up tonight:
Pillar initially injured his thumb back in August, when he was placed on the DL with a sprain. He returned quickly, and carried on for the rest of the season. That said, it was not clear that he ever fully recovered. The injury concerns led to comments from Ross Atkins earlier this week, in which he would not discuss whether his centre fielder would require surgery.
All we have right now is the photo and caption. At this point, it’s not clear whether or not Pillar will be available at the start of Spring Training. Hopefully the team will provide more information early next week.
