Marcus Stroman Announced as AL Wild Card Starter

Ross Atkins has confirmed that Stroman will take the ball for the Wild Card game. Liriano should be available in relief.

Word coming out of the Rogers Centre is Marcus Stroman will start tomorrow night’s American League Wild Card game.  Ross Atkins confirmed the decision on MLB Network Radio this afternoon.

This was always the most likely decision. Stroman was chosen over David Price in Game 5 of last year’s ALDS. John Gibbons is more familiar with him. While Francisco Liriano had success against the Orioles last week, Stroman’s longer tenure with the team ultimately gave him the edge. Hopefully Stroman will be able to match Liriano’s performance. For his part, the left-hander will be relegated to bullpen duty on Tuesday night.

Do you think this is the right decision? Or would you rather have Liriano get the start?
