In the second move of the day for Blue Jays management, RHP Joaquin Benoit was acquired from Seattle. The deal saw Toronto part with disappointing RHP Drew Storen and cash considerations.
After being designated for assignment and optioned to the minors, Storen is on his way to the Seattle Mariners. While struggling all season with the Blue Jays, Storen posted a bloated 6.21 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 38 appearances with Toronto. Expectations were high for Storen when he was acquired in the off-season. He never seemed to find his groove with the Jays after picking up 29 saves last season as the closer for Washington.
The Blue Jays add veteran reliever Joaquin Benoit to their shaky bullpen. Pitching in his 15th season in the bigs, Benoit is posting a 5.38 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP with 28 strikeouts in 24.1 innings. Toronto is hoping that he can put up better numbers for the remainder of the season.
